The Biometric Signature ID team headed to a recent EdTech conference which draws education I.T. professionals who want to see the latest tools that enable online education. BSI was there to demonstrate BioSig-ID, its patented software that authenticates student identities. Currently many schools and their learning management systems are accessible with simple username and password or PIN. That’s not authentication, it’s just credential approval. It could be anyone behind that keyboard.
Did you know that passwords and pins are the least secure identity tool out there? Some institutions add another security layer or factor like SMS codes or security questions. That’s still not enough.
The most accurate method to identify a person virtually is a biometric or a physical body detail that is unique to an individual. It’s static, or unchanging. However this body information is converted to data which makes it vulnerable. Fingerprints, or rather fingerprint data can be stolen, and once your fingerprint is gone you can never use it again, at least not securely. Iris scanners and facial recognition are other methods but these can be very costly. For years we’ve been yearning for a better way of protecting our identities and where needed, securely authenticating ourselves.
Biometric Signature ID has created that way. It employees gesture biometrics, or movements that are unique to the individual.
BioSig-ID is a user authentication password the user draws with their fingertip or mouse. That biometric data from that drawing is recorded and becomes the user’s biometric signature. Even with the best technology it can’t be copied. It’s not like a signature written on pen or paper that can be forged, the technology is capturing the data of the users actual hand moving in the process. Thus making it the most secure password and authentication tool out there.
In fact, it’s so secure that in 10,000 attempts BioSig-ID couldn’t be hacked, even when the people hired to hack it were given the actual password. Again it’s not about the password or the signature it’s about how the hand moved when creating it. No two hands will act just alike.
At the EdTech conference, BioSig-ID got a lot of attention because it’s like nothing else. In the video above, the Nibletz blog conducted an interview.
